At Alliander, you will work on solutions that keep the Netherlands’ energy infrastructure reliable, sustainable, and ready for the future. In this role, you will collaborate with talented professionals, tackle complex challenges, and make a direct impact on the energy transition.This position is available for 32, 36, or 40 hours per week.

What you'll do

Please note that for this role we are searching for someone who is already living in the Netherlands and is proficient in the use of the English language on C1 level. No use of the Dutch language is required but it is preferred.

The energy transition needs you as a Senior Platform & DevOps Engineer

The department System Operations is creating a smart grid, called Grid-As-A-Service (GaaS), built on Siemens GridScaleX platform. This system is used by Alliander, but will eventually run at external grid operators (DSOs) as well.

Within System Operations you'll join the PMSO (process monitoring System Operations) team. The team's roots are in observability (Elastic, OpenTelemetry, APM). Its scope is now extended to include platform (CI/CD, GitOps, developer tooling, pipeline security), which is where your focus will be.

The organization runs GitOps deployments via ArgoCD (App-of-Apps pattern), Helm, GitHub Actions, Python/Java tooling, AWS, Elastic, Open Telemetry, and Terraform.

The role splits roughly between:

  • Building & evolving: modernizing CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and internal CLI tooling for manifest generation and deployment validation
  • Security & compliance: embedding image scanning, secrets management, and access policies into pipelines without slowing developers down
  • Operational rotation: weekly on-call ("OPSer of the Week") triaging pipeline and cluster issues, and translating developer feature requests into formal RFCs for the platform vendor
  • Scaling: helping architect delivery-as-code patterns to extend the platform to external grid operators
  • Maintenance Besides development, the above has to be kept up to date, since security is an important topic for Alliander.

You complete our network

Did you know that Alliander is made up of different business units? With our large group of talented professionals, we develop and manage the energy grid for millions of people and businesses in the Netherlands. Everything we do, we do with an eye on the people who rely on us: our customers. And thanks to our talents, we have the utmost confidence in the energy future of the Netherlands. Together with you, we make the energy transition possible, for and with our customers.

You will be working at our Liander Alliander business unit. Here, you will work on the management, maintenance or construction of our electricity and gas networks. Safety is always our top priority: you ensure safety in your daily work and we ensure that you are supported in this.

In this way, we supply energy to households, businesses and our other customers in a safe and reliable manner.

Monitoring our energy network is only possible with the right motivation. We offer an inspiring working environment that will energise you in your day-to-day work. The System Operations department is made up of smart and committed professionals.

You energise our network
You combine a pragmatic mindset with a healthy dose of critical thinking. You're able to identify risks, bottlenecks, and scalability challenges before they become real issues, and you proactively design solutions that keep platforms reliable and future-proof. At the same time, you're passionate about improving the developer experience and measure success by enabling engineering teams to deliver software faster, safer, and with less friction. You thrive in environments where not everything is defined yet, enjoy bringing structure to complex challenges, and are comfortable helping shape platform standards and future-state architectures as they evolve.

Working with the latest technologies and innovations. With your talent and strengths, you can do that at our company. Will you contribute with your critical perspective and innovative solutions? Great especially if you add the following:

  • 5+ years in Platform, DevSecOps, SRE, or Release Engineering, ideally in a complex/regulated enterprise environment.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps experience (ArgoCD, App-of-Apps).
  • Strong CI/CD background — pipeline-as-code (GitHub Actions), dynamic build strategies, developer tooling.
  • Working knowledge of AWS (containers, managed DBs, secrets stores, networking, DNS) and Terraform.
  • Understanding of semantic versioning across multi-repo, multi-team setups.

Just better arranged for you:

Based on a 40-hour workweek, you can expect:

  • A gross monthly salary between €5.416,- and €7.737,- (scale 10) depending on your knowledge and experience
  • annually an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 18% (full time) or 12.8% (part time) of your gross annual salary, including holiday allowance;
  • 24.5 days’ holiday per year, which can be topped up generously from your IKB;
  • an end-of-year bonus of 6% of your annual salary in December;
  • a Sustainable Employability (SE) budget of €700 per year for your wellbeing and development;
  • unlimited learning and development opportunities via relevant courses and training programmes;
  • an NS (Dutch Railways) Business Card for sustainable commuting (or a kilometre allowance when using your own transport).
